Apart from sea access via regular ferries that carry passengers and goods, there are also fast boats that serve the Bali - Lombok & Gili Islands crossing. This fast boat is shorter and smaller than a public ferry and is intended only to transport passengers or tourists who want to cut travel time and distance. There are quite a lot of people interested in it, but its availability is sometimes hampered by the weather, if it is too extreme and the waves are high then crossings using fast boats are stopped without prior notification to avoid undesirable things.

Departure from Bali

The departure port for most fast boats is Padang Bai in East Bali. There are some that depart from Sanur and Serangan. Most fast boat routes are direct from Padang Bai - Gili Trawangan, dropping off passengers who choose a destination to Gili Trawangan, then picking up passengers departing from Gili Trawangan to Bali, then proceed to Gili Air, same as the procedure above, drop off passengers who choose the destination Gili Air, then pick up passengers from Gili Air to Bali. Next, or last stop will be Bangsal, the main port in North Lombok, drop off then pick up those who going to Bali via Bangsal to receive port clearance from Port Authority, then depart directly for Padang Bai in Bali.

Departure from Gili Islands & Lombok

The departure procedure as explained above is carried out at one time without having to wait too long considering the transit process at Gili Air and Bangsal as well as the completion of the port clearance process by the authorized port officer at Bangsal port.
